Case Study
Professional Services in InsurTech
Overview
One of the fastest-growing InsurTech companies wanted to strengthen the in-house team and bring on-board two professional roles – Business Analyst and Automated QA Engineer. As their platform was rapidly gaining market traction and required deeper involvement, their team continued to steadily grow each year in both its size and span of responsibilities. At one point, our client faced a lack of in-house development capabilities to continue building their flagship product. To address the talent shortage, future-proof their new system for further innovations, and affordably scale their engineering capacity, our client looked for a trusted company to partner with. OIP Robotics was a perfect match with our abundant experience in insurance, strong software engineering culture, and flexible services.
Problem Statement
At one point the entire delivery process was jeopardized due to growth in demands. A requirements analysis was not timely done nor deep enough to allow for building an architectural runway to meet the product’s future requirements. Moreover, the testing side needed refurbishment and the introduction of an automated testing approach.
Our Solution
Our client onboarded 4 full-time staff members with a comprehensive set of skills. Two business analysts have joined the team to elicit requirements, define, interpret and translate business and technical requirements into business specifications, create scrum artifacts (capturing requirements in user stories, writing acceptance, process maps, journeys), etc. Two QA team members were deployed – 1 manual and 1 automated QA Engineer. The manual QA roles extended the client’s capacity in handling the daily testing workload. Key focus areas of this role were: performing early feature testing (smoke/sanity/functional), mapping out the features and creating test notes/cases to cover expected user outcomes, as well as the most edge cases, and enriching the User Stories/Tasks with test notes. The QA Automation Engineer allowed the client to move faster and with more confidence through release and implementation-packed roadmap. The test approach was synced with the client’s dev team, to accomplish an optimal balance between just-in-time releases and need for the quality.
Results
As a result of this partnership, the gap between the client’s business goals and the technology was bridged. The client profited from a more structured testing approach, increased test coverage, and volume and prevented in-prod or late bugs discovery. After the test benchmark was built, OIPR helped to decrease the release and test time and allowed for more confidence in the rollout. Moreover, it enabled us to test more frequently and get closer to CD/CI/CT loop. At last, the client was able to reduce the total project cost by 20 percent with this business model.
